Nationally Renowned Guitar Duo Offers Free Concert at GCC, Feb.
Well known across North America, acclaimed guitar duo known as "Duo Erato" offers a free community concert and free master class at Glendale Community College Sat., Feb. 4. GCC is located at 6000 W. Olive Ave. in Glendale. The master class will be held from noon to 2:30 p.m. in Music Building room MU-101. The concert will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center. Duo Erato has been praised for their lyrical and elegant musicianship. Their evocative styles as individuals seamlessly blend into one, "so tightly coordinated that it often seemed that the two young women were playing a single instrument," according to one reviewer. Risa Carlson and Martha Masters began working together as a duo when studying with Manuel Barrueco at the Peabody Conservatory of Music in Baltimore. They have continued to impress audiences and critics since winning first prize in the 1994 National Guitar Summer Workshop Competition for ensembles. Their debut CD was released in October 2005 under the GSP label.
