New Customer Service Certificate at GCC Leads to Good Jobs
"Customer Service Agent," a new Certificate of Completion offered at Glendale Community College, gives students a new, rapid pathway to an in-demand career field. This certificate requires only 21-24 credit hours--most Associates degrees require 60-65 credits, and most Bachelors degrees require 125 or more credits. Certificates of Completion are a good choice for those who seek immediate entry into the work force or on-the-job advancement. This certificate provides students with a solid foundation to successfully staff a call center in a customer service environment. Courses cover user support, problem solving, interpersonal relations and business communications skills. Among other topics, students learn:
to use computers and acquire a working knowledge of business-oriented software
the importance of customer service and how to identify customer types
techniques to communicate with customers verbally and non-verbally
to utilize stress management techniques in dealing with angry customers
guidelines for closing a sales call
For more information on this new program or any of the more than 50 other GCC certificate programs, visit the campus at 6000 W. Olive Avenue in Glendale to see an academic advisor in the Enrollment Center, or call 623.845.3097. Spring classes begin Jan. 17, 2006.
Thousands of Dollars in GCC Scholarships Available; Make College Possible for Many
Anyone considering attending Glendale Community College in the spring semester should know that thousands of scholarship dollars have not yet been awarded. Applying for scholarships is easy. Scholarship inquiries may be directed to Coordinator of Scholarship Relations Frances Mateo at
frances.mateo@gcmail.maricopa.edu or 623.845.3147. Scholarships often make college possible, as in the case of Tracy Weeks, who recently received GCC's first Gaucho Mentoring Scholarship. The GCC Mentoring Program awarded Weeks, mother of three toddlers, $1,000 to study full-time at GCC to pursue a degree in Elementary Education. Melissa Bowden, another GCC recipient who received a Dorrance Transfer Scholarship, is now completing her bachelors in nursing at ASU. "Without the Dorrance Scholarship, I am not sure my continued education would have been possible," Bowden says. Spring classes begin Jan. 17, 2006. GCC is located at 6000 W. Olive Ave. in Glendale.
GCC to Remain Open Until Dec. 23 for Spring Registration
