New Bilingual Program at GCC For Early Childhood Education

Spanish-speaking students can now begin an A.A.S. degree in Early Childhood Education at Glendale Community College with courses offering bilingual instruction (Spanish to English). Special groups of students are formed to go through the program together. The first group began the program in May. They will also receive English as a Second Language classes along the way. Some students have the goal of transferring to a university to enter elementary education. Others hope to achieve the nationally recognized Child Development Accreditation (CDA) and the Family Child Care Provider state certification in order to start a home-child-care business. Some may choose to complete a Pre-School Teacher Certificate. These new programs, long available and primarily taught in English, are the first such GCC programs to be delivered with a bilingual focus. The Bilingual Career Pathway was designed to utilize a Department of Economic Security grant targeted to assist family childcare providers.
