GCC Trains Volunteer Law Enforcement Officers for Valley Cities
Glendale Community College is working hard to rectify the severe shortages of police officers in most Valley cities. Already well known for traditional Law Enforcement programs that produce more than 40 new career officers a year, GCC has developed a new partnership with the City of Phoenix to train volunteer Reserve Officers. The program is designed for individuals who already have other full-time jobs, but wish to volunteer as law enforcement officers in their free time. The Phoenix Reserve Officer Program provides the same training received by GCC Police Academy students, and participants receive the same Arizona Peace Officer Standards and Training (AzPOST) certification. "Virtually every Valley city needs police officers right now," says Jerry McCown, Director of the Law Enforcement Operations Program at GCC. "In a recent meeting I attended, one city's representative said he had 20 immediate openings for officers. This is certainly a good time for interested individuals to enroll in Law Enforcement training." Traditional Police Academy classes and Reserve Officer classes are offered nights and weekends. Visit gccleta.com for more information about all of GCC's Law Enforcement programs, or call 623.845.3831.
