Buy a Bowl and Feed the Hungry at GCC, Nov. 16

Scores of bowls and other original ceramic creations will be on sale in the Glendale Community College cafeteria to raise money for the hungry on Wed., Nov. 17, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.. The Ceramics Club and the Office of Student Activities at GCC will hold their signature "Empty Bowls" event for National Hunger Week. Sale of the bowls raised more than $3,000 for the Phoenix Rescue Mission last year; the same charity will receive this year's donation. GCC Ceramics Club students make and donate the ceramic items, Marjon Ceramics donates the clay, and Ceramics Professor Harry Kaino oversees this annual event. The public is invited to attend. GCC is located at 6000 W. Olive Ave. in Glendale.

GCC Hosts Free Film, "Licensed to Kill," Nov. 17

Filmmaker Arthur Dong probes the hearts and minds of murderers convicted of killing gay men Thurs., Nov. 17, in the third of four films that comprise "The Many Faces of Hate" film series at Glendale Community College. "In Whose Honor" will be shown at 6:30 p.m. in the GCC Student Union Lounge, 6000 W. Olive Ave. in Glendale. Co-sponsored by GCC and the Arizona Anti-Defamation League, this film features one-on-one cell block interviews in which Dong asks the murderers "Why did you do it?" The public is invited to this free film; no RSVP is necessary. For information, call 602.274.0991.

"Anne Frank" Lives on at GCC, Nov. 11-19

A classic play about Anne Frank, whose famous diary lent a searing voice to the fight for human dignity during World War II, will be offered six times at Glendale Community College. "The Diary of Anne Frank" will be held Nov. 11, 12, 17, 18 and 19 at 8:00 p.m. It will also be shown Sun., Nov. 13, at 2:00 p.m. All performances will be in the Performing Arts Center on the GCC campus, 6000 W. Olive Ave. in Glendale. The play is based on Frank's thoughts and real-life events immortalized in her diary during her family's lengthy isolation in an Amsterdam attic, hiding from Nazis. Tickets are $8 for general admission, $7 for seniors, and $5 for students with Student ID. GCC alumni receive $2 off the price of a general admission ticket with Alumni ID cards.
