Grammy Award-Winning Guitarist to Give Free GCC Concert, Nov. 15
Scott Tennant, founding member of the Grammy Award-winning Los Angeles Guitar Quartet (LAGQ), will give a rare free concert at Glendale Community College on Tues., Nov. 15, at 7:30 p.m. It will be held in the Performing Arts Center in the northeast corner of the GCC campus at 6000 W. Olive Ave. in Glendale. For the first time in 20 years, the groundbreaking quartet has taken a hiatus from world-tour concerts. Tennant, who rarely performs solo, will also teach a master class to GCC guitar students Mon., Nov. 14, at 7:30 p.m. in GCC Music Building 2, room MU2-151. This class is also free and open to the public. Tennant is one of the world's most recognized American guitarists. His performances, solo and with the LAGQ, have taken him around the world. He is also the author of the best-selling book and video on guitar technique, Pumping Nylon, and teaches at the University of Southern California's Thornton School of Music. He is a frequent contributor to professional guitar magazines and can be heard with the LAGQ on their recordings for labels such as GHA, Sony Classical, Delos and Telarc. According to Sarah Miller of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, "Tennant has a wonderful technique. The sound is flowing, almost liquid, and he switches with apparent effortlessness from delicate, lovely playing to sizzling virtuoso displays."
