Public Invited to Higher Ed Forum at GCC, Oct. 19
Anyone interested in the future of higher education in Arizona is invited to participate in a free public forum at Glendale Community College, Wed., Oct. 19, at 6:30 p.m. The Maricopa Community College District is hosting the GCC forum at the request of the Arizona Legislative Ad Hoc Committee on Higher Education Reform. Input is welcomed at this open discussion of current issues, challenges and opportunities in higher education. The forum panel will be composed of students, business partners, K-12 and university partners, legislators and other stakeholders. It will be held in the Student Union Lounge. GCC is located at 6000 W. Olive Ave. in Glendale. Parking is available in the south lots, accessible from Olive Ave. Call 623.845.3605 for more information.
Chemistry Fun at GCC, Oct. 21
"Elephant toothpaste," a genie in a bottle and an ammonia fountain are among the chemical wonders that will be produced at Glendale Community College (GCC) on Fri., Oct. 22, in celebration of National Chemistry Week. The community is invited to join elementary school visitors at 9:00 a.m. to enjoy this free 45-minute show, which will be repeated at 10:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. The shows will be held outside at the east end of the Physical Science (PS) Building, on the north side of the campus. Plenty of free parking is available north of the PS building. GCC is located at 6000 W. Olive Ave. in Glendale.
Football, Fun and Fireworks at GCC Homecoming, Oct. 15
The undefeated GCC Gaucho Football team will take on Mesa Community College at the GCC 40th Anniversary Homecoming football game, Sat., Oct. 15, at 7:00 p.m. The game, at Matt O. Hanhila Stadium, located at 6000 W. Olive Ave. in Glendale, will feature a half-time show including fireworks, an auto parade of VIPs, and the dedication of the Matt O. Hanhila memorial. Admission is $3 for adults and $2 for seniors and students; children under seven are free. GCC students, staff and faculty are free with GCC ID card.
GCC Hosts Free Film, "In Whose Honor," Oct. 20
Filmmaker Arthur Dong probes the hearts and minds of murderers convicted of killing gay men Thurs., Oct. 20, in the second of four films that comprise "The Many Faces of Hate" film series at Glendale Community College. "In Whose Honor" will be shown at 6:30 p.m. in the GCC Student Union Lounge, 6000 W. Olive Ave. in Glendale. Co-sponsored by GCC and the Arizona Anti-Defamation League, this film features one-on-one cellblock interviews in which Dong asks the murderers "Why did you do it?" Free Résumé Writing Workshops at GCC, Oct. 17 and 25
If you're looking for a job, GCC can help you with your résumé. Two free résumé-writing workshops will be held Mon., Oct. 17, at 4:00 p.m., and Tues., Oct. 25, at 11:30 a.m. Both will be held in the Counseling and Career Services Building, room CCS-108 on the GCC campus, 6000 W. Olive Avenue in Glendale. A Career Specialist will provide personalized assistance and a résumé critique if desired.
