GCC Presidential Finalists Named, Public Forums Set for Sept. 15
Two finalists for the presidency of Glendale Community College have been selected and public forums to interact with them will be held Thurs., Sept. 15. The presidential search is conducted and the forums hosted by the Office of the Chancellor of the Maricopa Community Colleges, Dr. Rufus Glasper. Two forums, one at 1:30 p.m. and one at 5:30 p.m., will be held in the GCC Student Union Cafeteria at 6000 W. Olive Avenue, in Glendale. Both are open to the public and RSVPs are not required. Attendees will receive biographical information on both finalists and may question them after their brief, introductory presentations. The finalists are:
Dr. Toni P. Jenkins,
Executive Vice President of the Collin County Community College District in Plano, Texas, a multi-campus district serving more than 40,000 students annually. Her twenty-year career at CCCCD includes numerous professional accomplishments such as: establishment of the first community-college based, post baccalaureate alternative teacher certification program in Texas and the acquisition of more than $3 million in grants from the Departments of Education and Labor to support students interested in teaching. Jenkins co-authored the district's original Access and Equity Plan and has been involved in several initiatives designed to increase high school graduation and college admissions among underrepresented student populations. She received her B.S. from Arizona State University, her M.S. from the University of North Texas, and a Doctorate in Education from Texas A&M University-Commerce. She has college classroom teaching experience and is active in many community and professional organizations.
Dr. Debra L. McCurdy,
Provost/Chief Operating Officer of the Dunwoody campus of Georgia Perimeter College in Dunwoody, Georgia. Georgia Perimeter College is the largest two-year institution in Georgia and its Dunwoody campus has the college's largest student enrollment. McCurdy possesses 18 years of senior administrative experience, and has numerous publications, grants and national presentations to her credit. For 2003-2004, she was named Administrator of the Year by the Georgia Association of Educational Office Personnel and has received many other awards throughout her career. Prior to her current position, McCurdy held high-level administrative positions at several colleges and universities, including Bowling Green State University and Brandeis University. She belongs to numerous professional organizations, including the President's Round Table for African-American CEOs. She earned her B.S., M.E., and a Ph.D. degree in Higher Education Administration from Bowling Green State University, and received a Woodrow Wilson National Administrative Fellowship.
