"All the World's a Stage" at GCC
The works of William Shakespeare are alive and well at Glendale Community College, which will offer "Introduction to Shakespeare" on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:00 to 11:15 a.m. starting August 23 and running through early December. The three-credit class introduces Shakespeare the playwright, the sonneteer, the linguist and the citizen of the 16th century. Students will discuss the major tragedies, comedies, histories and sonnets. They will also learn about the politics and issues of the late 16th century and their relevance and connection to the late 20th century. "Many people don't realize the enormous impact of Shakespeare on many facets of our lives—historically, linguistically, and culturally," says GCC English Professor Carmela Arnoldt, course instructor. "They use sayings such as 'Cowards die many times before their deaths,' 'jealousy is the green-eyed monster,' or 'something is rotten in the state of Denmark,' without even realizing they are quoting Shakespeare." This class will be held on the GCC campus, 6000 W. Olive Avenue in Glendale. The course listing is ENH230, and course fee is $170. GCC also offers many other informative English Humanities classes such as Chicano Literature, Literature of the Southwest, and Asian-American literature. GCC Hosts Popular eBay Classes
A non-credit class, "eBay Selling Techniques," has become more popular than any other class in the Community Education program at Glendale Community College, beating out favorites such as Jewelry Making, Mystery Shopping or Investing. This beginning course covers eBay registration, the selling process, and tips about running your own eBay business. The summer class was so popular that extra classes are being offered during the fall semester. In addition to two beginning classes, one held at GCC and one held at the Glendale Adult Center, a new advanced class called Power Selling eBay Techniques will be offered at GCC, 6000 W. Olive Avenue in Glendale. It covers accelerated selling techniques, tips for managing bulk items and how to open and run your own eBay store. Participants must have taken the beginning class or be familiar with the basics of selling on eBay. All eBay classes require pre-registration and cost $55 each. For more information or to request a complete schedule of fall Community Education classes, call 623.845.3805. More than 100 Community Education classes with full course descriptions are offered in ten categories.
