New Fine Arts Degrees at GCC Expand Learning Options, Career Pathways
Three new Associate in Fine Arts (AFA) degrees, specializing in art, dance and theater, will be offered by Glendale Community College beginning in the Fall 2005 semester. Other Maricopa Community Colleges may soon offer some of these degrees as well. These AFA degrees will offer new programs of study for students who aspire to careers or further study in the arts. On June 28, the Maricopa County Community College District Governing Board unanimously approved the new degrees.
"Students who want to explore and expand their artistic talent will have the opportunity to do just that through the AFA programs, " says GCC Vice President for Academic Affairs Jean Ann Abel. "These new degrees will lead to many exciting professional and academic options for students, and GCC is pleased to offer these fine arts degrees to the community."
Students enrolling in the new AFA programs may choose from a variety of courses in the arts at GCC, newly sequenced in three specific degree pathways. New classes at GCC were added to broaden the offerings in these disciplines. Examples include acting, tap dancing and theater technical production, among others.
Students in the AFA program will benefit from the depth of artistry and teaching experience among GCC faculty. Virtually all the faculty members teaching in the AFA program are performing or exhibiting artists, and many have received national acclaim for their teaching and outreach.
For more information or to discuss applying for the AFA programs, contact GCC Performing Arts Department Chair Robert Albury, 623.845.3723.
