GCC Offers New Computer Security Certificate Programs

Responding to the needs of employees in both the public and private sectors, Glendale Community College has developed three new programs in Information Security Technology: Associate of Applied Science degree (AAS) requiring 64-66 credits, an Information Security Administration Certificate for 29 credits, and an Information Security Technology Certificate for 27 credits. All three programs are designed to provide students with the knowledge and tools to understand how networks, operating systems and programs function. Emphasis is placed on developing the theoretical and practical skills needed to maintain security on mission-critical systems. The programs are designed to meet the training needs of government and industry employees. They cover a variety of information security disciplines that include both vendor-neutral and vendor-specific information technology (IT), and prepare students for internationally recognized industry certifications. For information about any of these programs, call GCC phone registration at 623.845.3333 or the GCC Business Department at 623.845. 3225. GCC is located at 59th and Olive Avenues in Glendale.

New "First-Year Experience" Program Helps First-Time College Students at GCC

A highly personalized program for first-time college students is available at Glendale Community College for the Fall 2005 semester that begins Aug. 20. Designed to remove the fear, confusion, or uncertainty from a student's first semester, the "First-Year Experience" (FYE) program creates a structured environment in which first-year college students receive many benefits to promote success in meeting their degree-seeking goals. Research shows that first-time college students who participate in Learning Communities successfully complete the semester at a higher rate than students who simply attend college and take classes at random. FYE is a Learning Community composed of small groups of students who are nurtured through their first semester or first year of college with pre-set blocks of classes, comprehensive orientations, personal meetings with instructors, and personal or group mentoring. FYE students will stay together in these block classes throughout the semester in a cohort group. Students must apply to be selected for the FYE program, which accepts a limited number of students. Applicants must be certificate or degree seeking, new to Glendale Community College, and test into college level classes for English and Reading (tests given at GCC). To receive an application packet, call the GCC Counseling Department at 623.845.3064 or visit the department on campus at 59th and Olive Avenues in Glendale. Slots for this popular program will fill very quickly so call or visit soon.
