GCC Forensics Team Excels at National Tournament
The Glendale Community College (GCC) forensics team recently took second place among 95 college and university entrants in the American Forensic Association's 2005 National Individual Events Tournament (AFA-NIET), held at Kansas State University. GCC President Phil Randolph received a congratulatory letter from Dr. Cynthia Carver, Chair of the AFA-NIET Committee in which she said, "The AFA-NIET is known as the Tournament of Champions because of the rigorous qualifying procedure that is required of students in order to compete at this tournament. As you are no doubt aware, however, GCC did far more than qualify for NIET! I extend to you special congratulations on your 2nd place finish." During the tournament, the coach of the forensics team, Professor Kirt Shineman, was elected American Forensics Association District 9 Representative. In March 2006 he will take the GCC Forensics team to compete internationally in Prague, the Czech Republic.
