GCC Kicks Off 40th Anniversary Celebrations, April 12!
Glendale Community College (GCC) is ready to kick-off eight months of 40th anniversary celebrations! Governor Janet Napolitano has proclaimed Tues., April 12, 2005, as "Glendale Community College and Mesa Community College Day." On that day, the public is invited to gather with GCC faculty, staff and students for a 40th anniversary photo at 11:15 a.m. on the GCC central mall at 6000 W. Olive Ave. Immediately following the commemorative photo shoot, there will be a brief 40th Anniversary Kick-Off Celebration during which GCC President Dr. Phil Randolph will read the Governor's proclamation, and refreshments will be served. For more information, call 623.845.3477.
On April 12, 1965, the Maricopa County Community College District Governing Board officially named two new colleges to join Phoenix College and serve the expanding needs of the county—GCC to serve the West Valley and Mesa Community College to serve the East Valley.
During GCC's inaugural fall semester, 2,000 students attended classes in two temporary locations. Today more than 40,000 students annually enroll in associate degrees and certificate programs, industry-specific training and university transfer courses. Approximately 320,000 prior students have achieved degrees and certificates at GCC, which is proud of its history of serving students in West Valley communities.
