GCC Biology Prof. Elected to National Office

Glendale Community College Biology Professor Dr. Jeffrey Pommerville has been voted chairperson-elect for the Undergraduate Division of the American Society for Microbiology (ASM). This means that in 2006 he will be the chair of the division. He is only the second person from a community college to be elected to this prestigious office. Founded in 1899, the ASM is the oldest and largest life science membership organization in the world with more than 42,000 international members. Pommerville is a nationally recognized expert in bioterrorism who is in great demand as a speaker all over the U.S. He recently wrote a biology textbook in wide use and frequently appears on radio and TV as an expert on bioterrorism issues. GCC Student Wins Scholarship to Prestigious Summer Acting Workshop

At the recent Kennedy Center American College Regional Theatre Festival, co-hosted by Glendale Community College, outstanding GCC theatre student Jared Stewart received a full scholarship to a renowned summer theatre workshop held at California State University, Fresno. Only one scholarship was given during the Kennedy Center Festival, attended by more than 1,200 college and university students from a five-western-state area. Stewart received this scholarship from the California Arts Commission; it includes tuition, room and board for the four-week theatre workshop. Free Résumé Writing Workshop at GCC, Mar. 8

Glendale Community College (GCC) will host a résumé writing workshop that is free and open to the public. It will be held Tues., Mar. 8, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the Counseling and Career Services Building (CCS) on the GCC campus, 6000 W. Olive Avenue in Glendale. The seminars will cover important and basic résumé writing techniques and attendees will receive personalized assistance and suggestions for improving their résumés.
