GCC Speakers Bureau Offers Free Service to Community
Glendale Community College offers customized presentations free of charge to community and civic groups through its Speakers Bureau. Presentations on many topics are available, reflecting the wide-ranging expertise of the College. A timely overview about the major issues, challenges and opportunities for GCC--related to its surrounding communities and higher education in general--is available by request and can be customized to organizations' interests and needs. Presentations include: how students can enroll; degree programs and course descriptions (credit and non-credit); athletics and the arts; plus much more. In Fall 2004, GCC speakers made free presentations to 29 organizations. Engineering Technology Day at GCC Open to All Students, Mar. 1
Students interested in engineering and technology can participate in numerous hands-on engineering exhibits at the 6th Annual Engineering Technology Day at Glendale Community College on Tues., Mar. 1, from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Most events and displays will take place in the GCC Student Union Lounge, 6000 W. Olive Avenue in Glendale, including three short films: "Understanding Car Collisions," "Tacoma Narrows Bridge" and "Falling Objects," which will be shown between 9:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. There will be a student panel discussion at 11:00 a.m., and a professional engineering panel discussion in the afternoon. In the central mall of the campus, a hybrid automobile will be demonstrated and explained by technology students. In addition to faculty from GCC, representatives from ASU, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, NAU and UA will assist in the events of the day and provide engineering advisement to invited high school and middle school students. Women Invited to Luncheon and Lecture at GCC, Mar. 2
The Women's Leadership Group at Glendale Community College will sponsor a lecture and luncheon on Mon., Mar. 2, in honor of Women's History Month. "Lessons of Balance: Women in Education Juggling Multiple Roles and Goals" is the theme of the event, to be held in the GCC Student Union Lounge, 6000 W. Olive Avenue, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Guest speaker will be Rochelle Balch, professional lecturer, author, consultant and owner of a computer-consulting firm that provides programming, PC office support and web development. She is the winner of numerous awards, including Ernst & Young's Entrepreneur of the Year, Regional Working Woman Magazine Award and Arizona Business Owner of the Year. She is also an avid community volunteer and was awarded the YWCA Tribute to Women award. She is also a part-time faculty member at GCC. Tickets for the event are $10 and proceeds will benefit GCC student scholarships. Tickets will not be available at the door, and must be purchased by Feb. 25 by calling 623.845.3012.
