Black History Month Free Events at GCC
Glendale Community College is pleased to offer these FREE events to the community in celebration of Black History Month. The public is welcome to bring and eat lunch during any of these events. GCC is located at 6000 W. Olive Avenue in Glendale.
Friday, 2/18
11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.: Attend a Brown Bag Luncheon with keynote speaker and distinguished former police chief Jerry Oliver, who is currently the Special Policy Advisor to the AZ Attorney General. His topic will be "The Relationship Between the Police and the Black Community." This will be held in the GCC Student Union Lounge.
7:00 p.m.: "Gospelfest," a Gospel Concert, will be held in the GCC Performing Arts Center in the northeast quadrant of the campus.
Friday, 2/25 (These three events will be held at the west end of the GCC Student Union Cafeteria).
11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.: Mr. Leonard Knight, President of the Phoenix Chapter of 100 Blackmen, will speak on "The Effect of Islam on the African American Community." This will be held
12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m.: Mary Kelly, African-American storyteller, will present a performance based on the life of Harriet Tubman, a former slave who spirited other slaves out of the south on the underground railroad.
1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m.: The group, "Enlightenment," will perform Reggae music.
