Nomination of GCC Prof. to ASA Council is a First for Community Colleges
Dr. Carol Jenkins, Sociology Professor at Glendale Community College, was recently nominated for election to the eight-member Executive Council of the American Sociological Association (ASA). This is the first time that a community college faculty member has ever been nominated for the council; in the past only university faculty have governed the ASA. The ASA has more than 12,000 members worldwide who will vote in April for their new Executive Council members. Jenkins has done extensive research about and advocates for rural sociological issues to be covered in sociology textbooks, in addition to the urban issues generally emphasized. GCC offers a program for university transfer in sociology; for more information, visit www.gc.maricopa.edu/socsci/soc or call 623.845.3314 to request a current schedule of classes.
