Innovative GCC Program Again Finalist in Community College Competition
One of the most prestigious college awards programs has again selected a Glendale Community College (GCC) faculty team as one of 10 national finalists. GCC psychology professor Dr. René Díaz-Lefebvre and his team of faculty from other disciplines have been nominated for the second time for the Bellwether Award from the Community College Futures Assembly (CCFA) in the category of Instructional Programs and Services. The team has developed a program of instruction based on the theory that we all learn differently (Multiple Intelligences). Students are given learning options (projects or performances based on their learning styles) that allow them to absorb class material in innovative ways that make learning easier. The GCC program is called Multiple Intelligences/Learning for Understanding (MI/LfU). The GCC team will make a group presentation at the annual CCFA Conference in Orlando, Florida, Jan. 29-Feb. 1, competing with nine other finalists. Winner will be announced at conference.
