GCC Biotechnology Club Collecting Bears for Glendale Fire Department
The Biotechnology Club at Glendale Community College is sponsoring a holiday charitable project called "Spare Bear Day." Club members are collecting new teddy bears to donate to the Glendale Fire Department. Firefighters will take the bears on calls during the holidays and give them to children traumatized by car accidents, fires or medical calls. The four collection dates designated for Spare Bear Day are Nov. 22-23 and Dec. 1-2. Donation boxes will be found throughout the GCC campus. The public is welcome to donate; call 602.896.4191 for specific drop-off sites or more information. Biotechnology students study and participate in various scientific fields including biological laboratory techniques, genetics, DNA research and cures for diseases.
GCC Seeking Ethnically Diverse Students for Paid Internships
The Career Services and Multicultural Departments at Glendale Community College are hosting an INROADSŪ Recruitment Presentation and Application Session at 11:30 a.m., Wed., Dec. 8, in the GCC Student Union Lounge, at 6000 W. Olive Avenue. INROADSŪ is seeking ethnically diverse college students for paid corporate internships in management with Fortune 500 companies like GE, Pfizer, Kraft, PricewaterhouseCoopers, and local Arizona companies such as Phelps Dodge, Wells Fargo, Boeing, Honeywell and the Dial Corporation. INROADSŪ is an organization whose mission is to "develop and place talented minority youth in business and industry and prepare them for corporate and community leadership." It seeks college students, who are talented, ethnically diverse, have a minimum 2.8 GPA, and have two or more summers left before graduation. Majors should be Business, Engineering, Computing and Information Sciences, Sales, Marketing or Retail Management. For more information call 623.845.3420.
Glendale Community College Raises More Than $3,000 for the Phoenix Rescue Mission
On Nov. 17, the Ceramics Club and the Office of Student Activities at Glendale Community College sponsored "Empty Bowls" for National Hunger Week. The event raised more than $3,000 for the Phoenix Rescue Mission. GCC Ceramics Club students made scores of bowls and other ceramic items that were on sale in the GCC cafeteria. Shoppers purchased a bowl, then had it filled with soup donated by Aramark Dining Services. Marjon Ceramics donated the clay and the students donated their ceramic bowls and other creations. GCC Ceramics Professor Harry Kaino oversaw the event that drew many people from the campus and the community. Empty Bowls has become an annual event at GCC.
