Community Input Desired in GCC's Presidential Search

A community forum to elicit broad public input about the future of Glendale Community College and the desired qualities of a new president will be held Tuesday, November 16, 2004, from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at GCC. The free event, convened by Dr. Rufus Glasper, Chancellor of the Maricopa County Community College District, and the Presidential Search Committee, will be held in the GCC Student Union Lounge, 6000 W. Olive Avenue in Glendale.

"Glendale Community College has many diverse interests and voices and I want to make sure they are both heard and engaged in the selection of a new president," said Glasper. "GCC has deep connections to the communities it serves and constituents are a vital part of this very important process."

Members of the Presidential Search Committee, which include faculty, staff, students and community interests, will lead discussion groups during the public forum and report their findings.

The hiring timeline calls for candidates to be recruited and interviewed through March, with finalists selected and community public forums tentatively scheduled for March or April. The process continues with several employee and constituency group interviews, site visits, and a final recommendation from the chancellor to the Governing Board by April or May. The new president is expected to be in office by July 2005.

Current GCC President Dr. Phil Randolph announced his retirement this fall. Randolph has spent the last three decades in several leadership positions throughout MCCCD and has agreed to stay in his current post until a new president is hired and on board.
