GCC President Receives Prestigious WESTMARC Award
Thursday, Oct. 28, Dr. Phil Randolph, president of Glendale Community College (GCC), received the prestigious John F. Long Lifetime Achievement Award from the Western Maricopa Coalition (WESTMARC) at their annual awards banquet held at the Glendale Civic Center.
Randolph, a native Arizonan who was raised in Glendale across the street from what is now GCC, has spent 33 years--the majority of his career--serving the Maricopa County Community College District (MCCCD). Most of those years were spent at GCC as a faculty member, associate dean and then dean. After a stint as president of Gateway Community College and as a vice-chancellor at the MCCCD District Office, Randolph returned in 2002 as president of GCC.
The John F. Long Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes the numerous contributions that he has made to Glendale and the West Valley. His nomination letter states, "Over the years, he forged many partnerships in the community--notably with Midwestern University, ASU West, General Motors, Ford, Banner Health, Glendale Public Library and John Deere. He founded the GCC Institute for Business, Industry and Technology, which provided training to Honeywell, Lucent, AT&T, Interface Data Systems and others."
Randolph is widely known and highly respected not only by the faculty and staff of the college he so ably leads, but also by leaders in education, business, industry and city government in the West Valley. He has dedicated his career to student needs and priorities, faculty development and community-based higher education.
