GCC Offers New Retail Management Certificate
The Valley's massive population growth, projected to continue well into the future, assures an increasing demand for grocery stores, restaurants, and other retail establishments which feature food services, such as malls, department stores and sports venues. Glendale Community College (GCC) has developed a new certificate program to train managers for food service businesses. The Retail Management Certificate is designed to prepare individuals working in the food industry, and related fields, for the management challenges of the future. The curriculum encompasses several business essentials and also emphasizes the skill sets needed for effective management and communication in the work environment. Eleven courses, totaling 33 credits, are required; the major content area involves production and inventory management. Courses include Accounting Principles I, Human Relations in Business, Business Communication, Techniques of Supervision, Merchandising and more. For more information about GCC's Retail Management Certificate, visit an Academic Advisor in the GCC Enrollment Center, 6000 W. Olive Ave., in Glendale. No appointment is necessary; hours for advisement are Mon. through Thurs., 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., and Fri., 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Computer Lunch Bunch Socializes and Learns About Computer Topics for Free at GCC
The Academy for Lifelong Learning (ALL) at Glendale Community College is pleased to offer a new, free, educational series for adult learners who have completed at least one computer course at or who have basic computer skills. Called The Computer Lunch Bunch, participants meet the second Friday of the month from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on the GCC campus at 6000 W. Olive Ave., in Glendale. Participants may bring their own lunch, purchase a lunch from the GCC cafeteria, or eat lunch at a later time if they prefer. The next meeting of the GCC Computer Lunch Bunch will be on Oct. 8; the topic will be "High Speed Internet" presented by Phil Weintraut of Cox Communications. Seating is limited; an RSVP is required.
