Huge Career Expo at Glendale Arena on Oct. 16
A consortium of West Valley businesses and educational institutions will sponsor a mammoth Career and Technical Education Career Expo from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 16, 2004. The Career Expo is free and open to the public; it will be held at the Glendale Arena, 9400 W. Maryland Ave.
Adults and students of all ages will find education and career information. Mini-lecture sessions will be held to discuss specific career areas and to present job-search tips such as successful interviewing, résumé writing and more.
Approximately 150 exhibitors from businesses, industry, educational institutions and community organizations will discuss career pathway information, educational requirements for various career opportunities and hiring information.
Attendees will learn about a variety of education and training opportunities available in high schools, community colleges and universities to prepare them for jobs and skills essential for career success in the 21st century. Activities will include information booths, workshops, guest speakers, demonstrations and presentations.
Representatives of fire and police departments will staff information booths and will display a variety of squad cars, fire trucks and other emergency vehicles. Gourmet samples will be presented by Culinary Arts students, and there will be a "Dress for Success" fashion show.
Major sponsors include Arizona Public Service, Banner Health, Glendale Community College, John F. Long Foundation, Maricopa Community College District, Peoria Unified School District, Western Maricopa Tech Prep Consortium and West-MEC.
