GCC Nurses Outscore Arizona and U.S. Averages on National Exam
Glendale Community College (GCC) graduate nurses, have a 97.5% first-time pass rate when they take the national licensure exam for registered nurses (NCLEX-RN). That is particularly impressive since the Arizona-wide, first-time pass rate is 93.61% and the national first-time pass rate is 88.45%. GCC is known for its excellent nursing program which has many applicants every semester but only accepts about 40. So highly thought of is the program that neighboring Banner Thunderbird Medical Center gives two $6,000 scholarships every year to beginning GCC nursing students. GCC Dean of Instruction Jean Ann Abel says, " I am extremely pleased with these test scores. We have superb students and our stellar nursing faculty work diligently to provide them with learning experiences that empower them to succeed in their careers as registered nurses." ACE-Plus Program at GCC Receives $7,000 Book Donation
The acclaimed ACE-Plus program at Glendale Community College (GCC) has received a generous donation of textbooks for students taking a Computer Information Systems class. The publisher, Course Technology, donated books for 50 students valued at $7,000. ACE stands for "Achieving a College Education." It is a scholarship-based college preparation program designed to expose high school students to a college environment and course work, and teach them skills for success in college and personal life. The "Plus" stands for the many services, workshops and activities offered by the program in addition to the college classes. Students take evening and weekend college courses during high school, with tuition and fees paid by the program. Most students in the program are the first in their families to attend college and most are minority students.
