GCC Receives Largest Planned Gift in its History
Glendale Community College (GCC) has received a planned bequest, its largest ever, to establish an endowed scholarship fund supporting students majoring in business administration, accounting or finance. The exact amount of the six-figure gift from Mrs. Gloria Boels is undisclosed at her request. The endowed scholarship is in honor of her late husband, Victor Boels, whose encouragement and support was the driving force behind her return to school at the age of forty.
Mrs. Boels attended GCC between 1967 and 1974, graduating in May 1974, with an Associate in Arts with Highest Distinction. She went on to complete her education at Arizona State University, and later taught at GCC as an adjunct faculty member in the Business Department. She is now retired.
Mrs. Boels is also contributing annually to the endowed scholarship, which will begin to award full tuition and book scholarships to students in 2005. "I always wanted to do this and now, I am finally in a position to do so. This is one of the happiest days of my life," said Mrs. Boels.
"The generous Boels endowed scholarship will have a major impact on GCC and on the future of our students. It will directly change the lives of people who might otherwise struggle to reach their educational goals," says GCC President Dr. Phil Randolph.
