Multi-Cultural Performances Focus of International Festival at GCC, April 7-8

Celtic music, Latin dancing, German accordions, Spanish flamenco and much more will electrify the crowd at Glendale Community College (GCC) during the free International Festival on Wed. and Thurs., April 7-8, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. both days. This year's festival will feature music, dance, food and exhibits from many lands under tents on the main mall of the GCC campus at 6000 W. Olive Avenue in Glendale. The event is open to the public. GCC enrolls more than 100 students from 36 countries in its very active International Students Program. Dances of Ireland, Germany, Brazil, and other Latin American countries will be featured April 7. Dances of Spain, China and India will be featured on Thursday, along with performances by GCC classical guitar students. Vendors will sell foods from around the world, crafts, and other items. Many GCC faculty, staff, and students don ethnic dress and national costumes, which adds to the color and excitement of this annual event. For more information or specific times of performances, contact GCC Director of International Education Programs Ken Bus at ken.bus@gcmail.maricopa.edu or at 623-845-3136.

GCC Students Remember Troops in Iraq

As we pass the one-year anniversary of the start of the war in Iraq, Glendale Community College (GCC) students and employees have not forgotten U.S. troops far from home. One year ago, GCC professional staff employees and Psi Beta Psychology Honors students sponsored a campus-wide and community drive to collect "comfort items" for the troops. Hundreds of pounds of snacks, personal grooming items, and other treats were collected and mailed to Iraq. The collection box is again very full and the students need names of soldiers abroad who could receive a "care package." If you know of a soldier away from home who would enjoy a box filled with candy, stationery, sunscreen and more, contact Psi Beta sponsor Elizabeth Jacobs at elizabeth.jacobs@gcmail.maricopa.edu or at 623-845-3734.
