GCC Students Sweep 2nd and 3rd Place Wins at Forensics Tournament
Two original oral interpretation pieces performed by Glendale Community College (GCC) forensics students "stole the show" at the Pacific Southern California Forensics Tournament in Pasadena, California, in February, by sweeping two of the top three awards in their category. Essentially one-act plays with emphasis on oral interpretation of the printed word rather than on sets or costumes, both scripts were written by GCC Forensics Director Kirt Shineman. Adapted from a novel and competing against many universities as well as other community colleges, Effroyables Jardins (In our Strange Gardens), took second place. This poignant vignette illustrates the irony of war, the complexity of family, and the unpredictable nature of good and evil in wartime. Gaudete took third place. It is based on the deportation of thousands of Mexican-Americans from the U.S. to Mexico in the 1930s. For more information on the GCC Forensics Program, visit

Young Artists Display Colorful Work at GCC
Nothing is as joyful, free, and colorful as art created by young children. Recognizing this, Glendale Community College (GCC) will present, from April 2-13 the eighth annual GCC Children's Art Show, comprised of artwork done by the children of the GCC Child Care Center. It is free and open to the public, and will be held in the GCC Student Union Lounge, 6000 W. Olive Avenue in Glendale. The opening night reception is 6:30-8:00 p.m. and will feature refreshments and a chance to meet many of the young artists. Each child will have two pieces of art professionally displayed. The purpose of this show is to celebrate young children and to illustrate the depth and importance of their creativity. The Child Care Center provides care for 75 preschool children of GCC students and is highly acclaimed for its programs and activities. The artwork selected to adorn the Opening Night Program was done by five year old Gavyn Gerardin.
