Connie Sherman Appointed Dean of Admin. Services at GCC
Connie Stafford Sherman has been selected as the new Dean of Administrative Services at Glendale Community College, bringing to her new post a breadth of leadership experience in public and private higher education nationwide. The Maricopa Community College District Governing Board approved her appointment at its regular meeting on Jan. 27.
The appointment is effective immediately, making her one of three deans at GCC. (The others are Dean of Instruction and Dean of Student and Community Services.) As Dean of Administrative Services, Sherman supervises all operational aspects of the College, including Business Services, College Safety, Facilities, Maintenance and Operations, Purchasing, and other functions of the 19,000-student College--the second-largest and second-oldest in the Maricopa Community College District.
GCC President Dr. Phil Randolph says, "All areas within Administrative Services are critical to GCC's success, requiring strong, confident leadership. We have found just that in Connie Sherman. She has the substance and the style to help GCC reach new levels of excellence."
Sherman's most recent position was Vice Chancellor of Systems Administration for the Community Colleges of Spokane, where she managed diverse operations that parallel those at GCC. Her accomplishments in that position were extensive, encompassing technology expansion, emergency planning, facilities master planning, and improvement of budget and accounting systems, among many other successes. Her previous positions include Assistant Vice President of Finance and Planning at the University System of New Hampshire, Budget Officer at St. Phillip's College, and Business Systems Analyst at Arizona State University from 1985 to 1988.
Sherman has earned two MBAs: one in Finance/Management Science from the University of Texas at San Antonio; and the other in Accounting/Computer Science from California State University, Stanislaus. She also held a fellowship at Bryn Mawr College. Her community service and regional and national recognitions are extensive as well.
"Clearly, GCC lives up to its national reputation for excellence and dedication to learning and community," Sherman says. "I am delighted to return to Arizona and join Glendale's exceptional faculty and staff in their commitment to building community one learner at a time."
Sherman and family look forward to making their home in Peoria.
