Peoria Couple Bestows Substantial Planned Gift on GCC
GCC alumni and Valley philanthropists Drs. Doris and Michael Sarullo of Peoria have made the largest-ever alumni gift to Glendale Community College (GCC), benefiting students who are "scholastically strong but financially challenged." At the request of the donors, the amount of the planned gift is confidential The Sarullos are strong supporters of education and have a sincere interest in seeing students succeed, particularly those who have drive and initiative but lack financial resources. "We had a very positive experience at GCC in the Administration of Justice Department under Duke Schafer, as well as in Computer Technology. We have long admired the community college system and its focus on providing quality education. And so it gives us great pleasure to give back to the college and perhaps encourage other alumni to make a gift," say the Sarullos. According to GCC President Dr. Phil Randolph, "these generous philanthropists... are potentially helping hundreds of future GCC students... and are great role models for others who wish to make a difference through a planned gift." Photo of the Sarullos is available at

GCC Performs Pulitzer Prize Winning Play, Picnic Nov. 7-16
To mark the 50th anniversary of William Inge's Pulitzer Prize-Winning play, Picnic, Glendale Community College (GCC) students will perform the play Nov. 6, 7, 8, 13, 14, and 15 at 8:00 p.m. and Nov. 16 at 2:00 p.m. Picnic, which also won the 1953 Critics Circle Award, takes place on Labor Day weekend in the joint backyards of two middle-aged divorced women. Both women have other women living with them: daughters, mothers and boarders. Into this congested female atmosphere comes Hal Carter, a young man of neither polish nor promise. His animal vitality and the interest it spawns in the women causes sparks to fly in the group. The GCC Performing Arts Theater is located in the northeast corner of the GCC campus at Olive and 59th Avenues in Glendale. The box office opens one hour before performances and tickets may be bought at the door--$10 for the general public and $8 for seniors and students. For reserved tickets and information, call 623-845-3713. Visit
