GCC Hosts First Netherlands Exchange Program
In October, Glendale Community College (GCC) will host Berthy Schell de Jong, European Coordinator for the East Netherlands School for Technology, as part of an ongoing exchange program. De Jong teaches ESL and English and American literature in the Netherlands, and she owns a translation service. While here, she will stay in the home of Ken Bus, Director of the GCC International Students Program, and his wife, Mary Jane Onnen, GCC English Department faculty. Ken Bus has been selected to go to the Netherlands for two weeks to fill De Jong's role and learn about her institution. The Maricopa Community College District (MCCD) Faculty/Staff Exchange Program with the Netherlands launched early this year when the district signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Koning Willem I College (KWIC). KWIC coordinates two-week professional and cultural exchange opportunities with the U.S. Participating MCCD employees are matched with a Dutch counterpart in the same general area of expertise for a two-week reciprocal exchange.
