GCC STUDENTS SEEK CELL PHONE TO HELP DOMESTIC VIOLENCE VICTIMS
Cell phones can help save lives through a community service project led by students at Glendale Community College. Members of Psi Beta, the GCC Psychology students' honor society, is collecting old, broken cell phones for recycling. They will donate them to Hopeline, an agency that will repair them if necessary and then re-program them with emergency numbers for distribution to victims of domestic violence. According to Dr. Elizabeth Jacobs, Psychology faculty sponsor of Psi Beta, "once your old phones are re-programmed by Hopeline and given to those who need them for protection, they become life savers." The drive will be held from June 10 to August 4, and the public is asked to collect and donate any old cell phones not being used--even if they no longer have the charger unit. GCC is located at 6000 West Olive Avenue in Glendale. On-campus drop boxes will be in the Psychology faculty offices (building 04), the GCC bookstore, and the Student Life Office in the Student Union Building. For questions, call Dr. Jacobs at 623-0845-3734.
