First Alumni Endowment Scholarship Awarded

Jennifer Jones-Way has been awarded the first transfer scholarship by the GCC Alumni Association in the amount of $510. Jones-Way graduated this past May obtaining an AA in business with a 3.5 GPA.

The scholarship will be used as she transfers to Northern Arizona University's remote campus at Paradise Valley Community College, pursuing her bachelor's in business. A single mother of three, she was employed by American Express for 13 years before being let go during downsizing. While being a single parent and student, she is the Meals Ministry coordinator at her church and volunteers with her children at the Glencroft Care Center in Glendale. She credits the childcare assistance from her 71-year-old grandmother Sally Covert with helping her graduate from GCC in three years and 10 months.

Under the guidance of a 10-member Board of Directors, the GCC Alumni Association has financially supported the college through a number of initiatives. In 2009, the organization was successful in increasing their Opening Doors Scholarship to a full endowment level of $10,000.
