President Irene Kovala Signs Climate Commitment
If you missed this event, you can view the live videos of both the President Signing and Dr. Ryne Raffaelle on the Green Efforts Web page.
On Sept. 20, 9:30 a.m., Glendale Community College President Irene Kovala addresses a gathering of students, staff, faculty and guests from the community as she signs the American College and University Presidents' Climate Commitment. She joins other Maricopa Community College presidents and Chancellor Rufus Glasper in leading MCCCD in more sustainable practices and systems. Last year, the college's Green Effort's Committee reported GCC's Greenhouse Gas Inventory on the ACUPCC website so that GCC has a benchmark and breakdown of sources to develop a Carbon Action Plan.
At 10 a.m., following the signing, nationally renowned Dr. Ryne Raffaelle speaks about sustainability, energy storage and the latest on solar energy research. Dr. Raffaelle is vice president for research and associate provost at Rochester Institute of Technology. He has served as the director of the National Center for Photovoltaics at the National Renewable Energy Lab in Golden, Colo., the federal government's central research organization for solar energy development.
