A poetry reading that features the 2007-2008 Individual World Slam champion among its presenters is scheduled from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 11, in Room 104E of the Student Union at Glendale Community College (GCC), 6000 W. Olive Ave., Glendale.

World champion Ed Mabrey and local favorite Patrick Hare are the featured presenters. The monthly free event, titled Free Association Poetry Open Mic, also provides the public, students and faculty with an open-microphone opportunity to present all styles and stages of poetry writing.

The reading is presented in association with the Rorschach Poetry Collective, a diverse and accomplished group of West Valley poets who seek to bring contemporary poetry to local residents. Celebrating a variety of styles and forms, Rorschach Poets have been published in top literary journals around the world, been invited to perform at National Slam festivals plus the Mesa Arts Center and ASU's Kerr Cultural Center.

Additional poetry readings through the end of 2009 at GCC are scheduled for Sept. 8, Oct. 13, Nov. 10 and Dec. 8.

Details about this and future poetry readings are available by contacting GCC student Jessica Standifird, who formed The Rorschach Poetry Collective, at 602.810.4574 or freeassociationpoetry@gmail.com.
