Glendale Community College (GCC) was among the nation's Top 100 associate degree and certificate producers for 2009, according to a recent listing by Community College Week magazine.

The listing ranked GCC 29th among the nation's Top 50 in awarding associate degrees for education majors with 70 and 25th among the top 100 providers of two-year certificates in all disciplines with 728, according to the magazine's June 15 issue. In addition, the College was 63rd among the top 100 associate degrees in all disciplines conferred to American Indian students with 22.

A national independent biweekly magazine published in Fairfax, Va., Community College Week annually presents a special issue on the nation's top associate degree producers using data reported by institutions to the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS), which is run by the National Center for Education Statistics.

The Maricopa Community College District was well represented in the list with seven schools – GateWay, Mesa, Scottsdale and South Mountain community colleges joining GCC along with Phoenix and Rio Salado colleges – included in various categories. The district is one of the largest higher-education systems in the world and the largest provider of healthcare workers and job training in Arizona — a major resource for business and industry and for individuals seeking education and job training.

GCC is enrolling students for the fall semester, which begins with weekend classes on Saturday, Aug. 22, and weekday and evening classes the week of Monday, Aug. 24. Early registration is encouraged in order to complete required placement tests for English, mathematics and reading courses.

Adding to the convenience of classes offered on GCC's main campus at 6000 W. Olive Ave., Glendale, and GCC North at 5727 W. Happy Valley Road, Phoenix, is the availability for the first time this fall of courses at the Communiversity @ Surprise, 15950 W. Civic Center Plaza, Surprise.

For specific course descriptions, class schedules and on-line registration, visit http://My.maricopa.edu and click on "Find a Class" along the top of the page.
