Networking is an extremely valuable tool for connecting individuals to available employment, but effectively applying the most appropriate networking techniques often is the key to securing that much-wanted position.
Glendale Community College (GCC) is partnering with the Southwest Job Network (SJN) to present a free West Valley seminar and networking event that teaches the fundamentals of "slowing down" networking discussions to build quality interactions and generate solid professional referrals, job leads and network connections.
Titled "Slow Networking," the event is scheduled from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Monday, July 13, in Room 104 of the Student Union at GCC, 6000 W. Olive Ave., Glendale. The first half hour is set aside for registration and open networking, followed at 6 p.m. by the seminar.
The goal of this seminar is to educate job seekers how to conduct a mutually beneficial "slow networking" meeting. During the event, participants will learn step-by-step techniques for executing effective 20- to 30-minute discussions that can result in positive connections and job leads.
This event also will help individuals to expand their network by building new connections with fellow workshop attendees. Workshop registrants should come to the event with a prepared "elevator speech," a prepared 30-second synopsis of what they do.
Individuals wishing to attend the event and receive course pre-work can preregister at http://sjn-wv-slownetworking-07132009.eventbrite.com. Additional information is available by calling SJN at 480.513.1491 or sending an email to info@southwestjobnet.com.
SJN is a non-profit organization that provides training, personal connections, access to resources and moral support for individuals in career transition. Its volunteer leaders and trainers come from various industries including technology, healthcare, government, finance and human resources. Members represent the entire career spectrum of the metro Phoenix area. Visit http://www.southwestjobnet.com for details.
