Papers, projects and presentations are part of the educational experience, but when technology issues arise that impact a student's ability to meet these course requirements, a cry for "help" often goes out.

Individuals considering enrollment at Glendale Community College (GCC) as well as existing students, faculty and staff are encouraged to visit the college's technology website at www.gccaz.edu/help to learn about the resources GCC offers – including live online assistance – to address computer-related issues.

"Availability of helpful staff and resources potentially can determine a prospective student's choice of an institution of higher learning," says Dorene Kessler, GCC's director of College Technology Services. "At GCC, we're taking proactive steps to enhance this experience and improve how technology benefits students and employees."

For example, the functions of separate student and employee help desks have been merged into client-service desks located on two ends of GCC's High Tech Center 1, a building where students have access to more than 300 computer stations plus printers and self-help tools to benefit them in their students and preparation of assignments. Several technology staff members are available to serve clients at those two stations and, in many cases, can come to individual computer stations within the building to provide assistance. Computer labs also are available in High Tech Center 2 and the John F. Prince Library Media Center.

Current students can seek help-desk assistance either via e-mail at helpdesk@gcmail.maricopa.edu or by dialing 623.8453555 and pressing option "3." Summer hours at 7 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

Meanwhile, enrollment is under way for the five-week Summer II session that begins Tuesday, July 7, and for the fall semester that begins Saturday, Aug. 22, for weekend classes and Monday, Aug. 24, for weekday courses.

For specific course descriptions and class schedules, visit www.my.maricopa.edu and click on "Find a Class" along the top of the page. Along the left side of the screen, check the desired college and semester. The site also lists space availability within classes. Please note class offerings vary by GCC's main campus at 6000 W. Olive Ave., Glendale, and the GCC North campus at 5727 W. Happy Valley Road, Phoenix.

Additional enrollment information is available by calling the GCC Enrollment Center at 623.845.3333. Placement tests are required for English, mathematics and reading courses, so early registration is encouraged.
