A celebration of the life of farmworker, labor leader and civil rights activist César Chávez will be held at Glendale Community College at noon Tuesday, March 31, in the central mall of the college, located at 59th and Olive Avenues in Glendale. The community is invited to attend; the event and parking are free.

The celebration will be hosted by students of the GCC chapter of the Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano de Aztlán (MEChA) which has arranged for three guest speakers.

Mr. José Cortez of Chicanos Por La Causa Mr. José Mendoza will provide insight into Chávez' personal life and experiences.

Ms. Andrea Sánchez will reminisce about her life as a migrant who worked in the fields. Chávez organized Mexican American farmworkers like Sánchez and co-founded the United Farm Workers, which ultimately led to major improvements for laborers in all unions. His birthday is now a holiday in eight states. Many parks, cultural centers, libraries, schools and streets have been named in his honor in cities across the United States.

After the presentations, GCC MEChA will provide refreshments of traditional Mexican soft drinks and fruit. For more information call 623.845.3255.
