The community is invited to attend a free concert performed by the 25 members of the Strings Ensemble of the Phoenix Symphony at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 25, in the Glendale Community College Student Union, room SU-104D&E. GCC is located at 59th and Olive Avenues in Glendale and parking is free. View a GCC campus map at www.gccaz.edu/map for location of the PAC and parking.

This performance is made possible through a partnership between the Phoenix Symphony and the GCC Honors Program. The concert will include music by Mozart, the beautiful Adagio for Strings by Samuel Barber and will conclude with the rousing Hoe Down by American composer Aaron Copland. The music will be played under the direction of the accomplished Assistant Phoenix Symphony Conductor Benjamin Rous. He will explain the history and cultural significance of each piece and invite the audience to ask questions throughout the program.

Rous enjoys a varied musical career as conductor, violinist and composer. He joined the Phoenix Symphony as assistant conductor in September 2008. Prior to coming to Arizona, he was the music director of the Brahms Society Orchestra in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Rous received his master's degree in orchestral conducting from the University of Michigan and is now pursuing doctoral studies at the University of Michigan. He is passionate about educating students and adults and is dedicated to innovative and educational programming.
