GCC Celebrates Black History Month with Free February Events

Glendale Community College (GCC) will celebrate Black History Month in February with free campus events sponsored by the Black Student Union (BSU). All will be conducted in the GCC Student Union (SU) on the south side of the campus, located at 59th and Olive Avenues in Glendale. The public is invited to these events:
11 a.m. to 2 p.m., on Feb. 2, 3, 5 & 6 – BSU members will host an "open microphone" event called Speak Out on the GCC central mall. African-American students and visitors will be invited to speak on subjects that affect them. On each of the four days, a different topic will be discussed, such as economics, dating and more.
1 to 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 9 - A diversity forum on What it Means to be African-American in the United States will be presented in SU-104A.
11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 19 - A talent show featuring poetry, rap music, dance and more will be performed in SU-104E.
12 to 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 23 - The African dance troupe Enlightenment will perform in the SU lobby.
1 to 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 23 - A play titled Colored Girls Who Commit Suicide When the Rainbow is Not Enough will be presented in SU-104E.
6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 27 - The 50-plus voices of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Choir will perform, along with impressionist dancers, in SU-104DE.
