To help students and their families overcome financial barriers to education, GCC will join 30 sites statewide hosting "College Goal Sunday" (CGS)at 2 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 8. This event provides free information and hands-on direction to the families of college-bound Arizona students who need help applying for financial aid. Financial-aid professionals will give line-by-line assistance to students completing the universally required Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form.

Single students 23 or younger should be accompanied by their parents and bring their parents' 2008 income data (W-2 forms, or a pay stub, and/or 2008 tax return). Married students or students 24 and older should bring their own (and spouse's) 2008 income information.

Spanish interpreters will be available to assist. Participants will have access to computers if they choose to apply online immediately or practice following demonstrations.

One participant per site will have his or her name drawn and submitted for a statewide drawing to win a laptop or a scholarship. Winners will be notified by April 1, 2009.

GCC is located at 59th and Olive Avenues in Glendale; the event will be conducted in the Student Union Building (SU) on the south side of the campus. Visit www.gccaz.edu/map for a GCC campus map.

College Goal Sunday is sponsored by corporate sponsors and the Arizona Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators. For more information, visit www.collegegoalsunday.com or call GCC site coordinator Anne Hatcher at 623.845.3373 for more information.
