People who enjoy singing in a choir, meeting new people and earning college credits as well, should plan to register for a community choral group at Glendale Community College.
The class, called Women's Chorus but soon to be renamed Mixed Community Chorus, is for men and women (MUP157 21872). It meets from 7:10-9:50 p.m., Monday evenings, Jan. 26 - May 11. It is a one-credit class and the cost to register is $76. It meets in building MU1, room 101.
This class emphasizes choral technique and performance of all styles of appropriate choral literature. There are no prerequisites for this fun and enjoyable class. Community performances are scheduled during the year, providing participants the exciting experience of performing in public.
Registering requires a short and painless "voice placement" audition to determine range, pitch memory and where in the chorus each voice belongs. This will include scales and the choice of singing America the Beautiful or My Country 'tis of Thee.
The ten-minute auditions will be conducted in building MU1, room 103, and are scheduled for these dates and times:
Tue., Jan. 20 10 a.m. to 3:50 p.m. Wed., Jan. 21 10 a.m. to 3:50 p.m. Thu., Jan. 22 2 p.m. to 3:50 p.m.
To schedule an audition time, participants must sign up on the audition sheet posted on the choir bulletin board in building MU1. Those who cannot get to campus during the day to sign up may call 623.834.3720 and ask for assistance.
Those who need to schedule an evening audition time may contact Dr. Kevin Kriegel, director of choral music, at kevin.kriegel@gcmail.maricopa.edu or at 623.845.3724.
To register for the class, call 623.845.3333.
Glendale Community College is located at 59th and Olive Avenues in Glendale. The MU1 building is on the east side of the campus, off 59th Avenue at Sunnyslope Lane. Parking is free.
