GCC North Celebrates New Buildings, Aug. 14July 23, 2008
(New Facilities=More Classes/Services for NW Valley Students)
The public is invited to Glendale Community College North to celebrate the grand opening of its new buildings at an open house on Thurs., Aug. 14, from 6:30-8:00 p.m. Located at 5727 W. Happy Valley Road in Glendale, this satellite of Glendale Community College has more than quadrupled its size from 20,000 square feet to 87,000 square feet with four new buildings. Original buildings are also being remodeled or refurbished.
Guests can take guided tours of the new Information Building housing the library and computer commons; the Student Services Building housing advisement, enrollment center, bookstore, cafeteria and fitness center; the Central Plant Building; and an Instruction Building housing classrooms and labs for biology, chemistry and physical science classes which will be offered for the first time at GCC North. It also boasts specially designed spaces for tutoring.
The GCC North Fitness Center will be a full-service facility. It will feature instruction from degreed and certified instructors, personalized programs for all members, group fitness, aerobics classes and adapted fitness programs for adults with physical limitations or special needs.
In addition to building tours, the open house will feature a ceremony with Dr. Rufus Glasper, Chancellor of the Maricopa Community Colleges and Dr. Velvie Green, President of GCC. There will also be refreshments and music. The event is free.
