Low-Cost Internship Class at GCC Can Open Doors to Jobs

July 15, 2008

More than 600 potential employers offer internships to Glendale Community College students through the Career Work Experience (CWE) class now accepting registrations for the upcoming fall semester. The cost for these pathways to employment can be as low as $71 a semester.

Instructor Diane Taylor matches students to real-world internship experiences that open career possibilities. The class helps those of any age who are eager to acquire new skills, undecided about their career goals or unable to find employment without experience. There is also an "open-entry, self-paced" (OE/SP) section in which students can enroll at any time during a semester and proceed at their own pace.

The CWE class meets four times at GCC, 6000 West Olive Avenue in Glendale. It covers résumé writing, interviewing techniques, job search strategies, and how to get an internship.

Internships can provide valuable job experience in numerous areas, such as computing, accounting, marketing, engineering, social work, health care, graphic arts, broadcasting and more. Internships can provide up to three credits.

According to Taylor, "the CWE class has provided job experience and opened career possibilities for numerous students, and has saved many others from spending time and money in fields they discovered were not for them."
