GCC North to Celebrate New Buildings Aug. 14
July 8, 2008The public is invited to Glendale Community College North to celebrate the grand opening of its new buildings at an open house on Thurs., Aug. 14, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Located at 5727 W. Happy Valley Road in Glendale, this satellite of Glendale Community College has expanded its size from 20,000 square feet to 87,000 square feet with four new buildings. Guests can take guided tours of the new Information Building housing the library and computer commons; the Student Services Building housing enrollment center, bookstore, cafeteria and fitness center; the Chiller Building responsible for the heating, ventilation and air conditioning of the campus; and an Instruction Building housing classrooms and labs for biology, chemistry and physical science. It also boasts specially designed spaces for tutoring.
In addition to building tours, the open house will feature a VIP ceremony with Dr. Rufus Glasper, Chancellor of the Maricopa Community Colleges and Dr. Velvie Green, President of GCC. There will also be music and refreshments. The event is free.
The GCC North Fitness Center will be a full-service facility. Equipment will include new treadmills, ellipticals, stair climbers, upright and recumbent bikes, new weight training machines, and free weights. It will feature instruction from degreed and certified instructors, personalized programs for all members, group fitness and aerobics classes, and adapted fitness programs for adults with physical limitations or special needs. It is an open, bright facility with great mountain views from its large windows. (The fitness center at the main campus offers everything available at GCC North, plus water exercise, swimming, group cycling and flex yoga classes.)
A huge benefit of both the GCC and GCC North Fitness Centers is that registering (for credit or non-credit) at either center entitles users to work out at both locations. GCC's main campus is located at 6000 W. Olive Avenue in Glendale. Non-credit fitness center users can register for various lengths of time, from four visits ($10) to the entire fall semester ($85) and for various lengths of time in between.
