The Tractor-Trailer Driving (TTD) Program at Glendale Community College (GCC) has just received word that its request for $52,663 from the Commercial Motor Vehicle grant program has been awarded by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA). The money is to be used to "enhance classroom safety curriculum and behind-the-wheel courses for students enrolled in commercial driver's license (CDL) training programs." Only nine institutions of higher education were awarded money from this grant source for fiscal year 2008.

At GCC, the awarded funds will be used for two major purposes. The first is to develop an additional, expanded and revamped safety component for the TTD program. The second use for the grant money is to develop a new Bus Driver Training program at GCC, to be offered to the community as an additional professional driver-training career option. The bus driver program will be available in early August 2008.

GCC is located at 6000 W. Olive Avenue in Glendale. For additional information about the Tractor-Trailer Driving program or the new bus driver program, contact program director Charles Blagg at charles.blagg@gcmail.maricopa.edu or 623.845.3294.
