GCC Biology Faculty Elected to Science Academy Offices

Glendale Community College biology faculty member Dr. Robert Reavis was elected president of the Arizona-Nevada Academy of Science (ANAS) at the organization's annual meeting on March 29, 2008. Reavis is only the second community college faculty member to be named to the ANAS presidency in its 52-year history. Reavis said, "It is an honor to serve as the president of ANAS. This distinction really reflects well on the excellence of the academic program here at GCC and on our dedicated, quality faculty."

The Arizona Nevada Academy of Science is a regional scientific organization with members from Arizona Game and Fish, University of Arizona, Arizona State University, Northern Arizona University, Midwestern University, Southwestern College, Glendale Community College, and University of Nevada at Las Vegas (UNLV). This organization publishes a journal and has an annual meeting where faculty, graduate students and undergraduate students present original research in the fields of Anthropology, Biology, Chemistry, Conservation, Geography, Geology, Hydrology, Psychology, and Science Education. ANAS is also the sponsor of the Arizona Science Olympiad (each March) and offers scholarships to high school students at the state finals, which are always held at Glendale Community College. This organization is an affiliate of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and of the National Associaiton of Academies of Sciences.
