GCC Psych. Students Make Great Showing at WPA Conference
In a recent feat of academic excellence, five psychology-student research teams from Glendale Community College (GCC) were selected to present research posters at the annual Western Psychological Association (WPA) convention in Vancouver, British Columbia, May 3-6. It is highly unusual for research by community college students to be accepted for presentation since they are competing against university students working on bachelors, masters, and doctoral degrees. Even psychology professors compete to have their research posters accepted for presentation. Four of the five GCC research teams were able to make the trip and present their research. Their research instructor and mentor, Dr. Sue Oliver, said, "I received numerous laudatory comments from attending professors regarding the high quality research conducted by GCC students, as well as their ability to answer penetrating questions relative to their findings." For more information about psychology at GCC, visit www.gc.maricopa.edu/psyc or call 623.845.3615.

GCC Nursing Professor is APNA Nurse Educator of 2007
Teaching excellence abounds at Glendale Community College (GCC) and the nursing department is no exception. Nursing faculty member Nelly Peterson was recently selected by the Arizona Philippine Nurses Association (APNA) as the recipient of its 2007 Nurse Educator of the Year award. The APNA is a non-profit organization that promotes and honors professional leadership, education, research, mentorship and clinical experience to promote the betterment of Filipino-American nursing practice. The GCC nursing program is widely respected and its graduates routinely and significantly surpass national pass rates on the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nursing (NCLEX-RN) that measures the competencies of recent graduates.
