GCC Hosts 42nd Commencement, May 11
More than 2,000 degrees and certificates will be awarded by Glendale Community College for the academic year 2006-2007. Of those, approximately 300 graduates are expected to walk across the commencement stage on May 11 at Glendale Community College to receive their degree or certificate in person. The public is invited to the ceremony, to be held at 7 p.m. on the central mall of the college, located at 6000 W. Olive Ave. in Glendale. The faculty comment will be delivered by Dr. Pamela Joraanstad of the GCC Communication Department, and the keynote speaker is Dr. Warren Stewart of the First Institutional Baptist Church of Phoenix. Music will be provided by GCC bands and choirs and refreshments will be served afterwards. The event and the parking are free and open to the public.
New Printmaking Class Popular at GCC
If you've ever been interested in printmaking, Glendale Community College has the class for you! For the first time this spring, art students at Glendale Community College were able to take a brand new class called "Introduction to Printmaking" which will be offered again in the fall 2007 semester. It will be held in the Fine Arts Building, room 132 (FA-132), from 8:30-11:30 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, starting August 21 and ending December 14. The three-credit course is ART250 and carries a $210 registration fee for Maricopa county residents. The first part of the course covers the concepts and techniques involved in the three most basic printmaking modes: serigraphy, woodcut and monoprinting. Later in the course, an overview of etching, lithography and papermaking is covered. Call 623.845.3333 to register.
