GCC Forensics Team and Coach Shine in Houston

On the heels of its international victory in Buenos Aires in March, the Glendale Community College Forensics Team recently returned from nationals in Houston having won the Community College Sweepstakes and carrying a bag full of individual medals. Competing against college and university teams from all over the U.S., GCC team members received six gold medals and two silver in major competition categories. They also received critical acclaim as the top-ranked Interpreters Theater troupe, performing "Swat the Wwasp," written by GCC Forensics Coach Kirt Shineman. The script highlights the unethical and often illegal treatment of teens in "tough love boot camps." Shineman also received the 2007 National Service Award bestowed annually by Phi Rho Pi, the national honor society for speech competitors in two-year colleges in the United States. Recipients are selected who exemplify the ideals of successful and ethical communication instruction. For information on the GCC Forensics Program, visit www.gc.maricopa.edu/forensics or contact Kirt Shineman at kirt.shineman@gcmail.maricopa.edu or 623.845.3653.
